"Are You Doing the Work?"
“Are You Doing the Work?”
Ok, we heard the word and believed. Our hearts were touched, we repented of our sins, confessed Christ as our Savior, and were baptized into Christ. We changed our ways by putting away the old to make room for the new. But what is the new? One thing we must do is to obey God not man. Hebrews 5:8-9 8 “though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.” We need to do the work God has asked us to do. Some of those things are to preach the word. Some have a gift of public speaking, but what if you can’t preach? You can edify. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 11 “Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.”
How about singing? You can lead the singing as a part of worship. Colossians 3:16 16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Do you pray? There are several times each Lord’s day and during our weekly Bible study that we need men to lead us in our prayers. James 5:16 16 “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Can you help at the Lord’s table? Matthew 26:26-29 “Jesus Institutes the Lord’s Supper: 26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed[a] and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, ““Take, eat; this is My body.”” 27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, ““Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the new[b] covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”” We need Good Christians to serve the congregation. Will you help? What can you do for God’s church?
