Favorite Verses

Do you have a favorite verse, one that gives you comfort a special verse that helps to guide your life?  The first verse that helped me get through a difficult time in my life, a time that kept me hospitalized for nearly a full year.  Here are verses that gave me comfort during that time in my life, first Matthew 6:5-34.  The city where I live paid my rent and the utilities, the congregation kept my health insurance paid and all my worries were taken care of. The next verse that helped to guide my life is James 4:17,    “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” So living by this verse often makes me stop and think about the others around me. For instance, seeing a senior woman putting her husband’s wheelchair in her trunk.  Many would walk on by, but I did help this lady.  At first, she told me she does this all the time and I told her, not this time because I want to help you.  After this, she told me I was the first person ever to help her with the wheelchair.  God paid me back by giving me a wonderful feeling about helping her.   The last verses I use to guide my life comes from the Apostle Paul in Romans 1:29-32.     29 being filled with all unrighteousness, [a]sexual immorality, wickedness, [b]covetousness, [c]maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 [d]undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, [e]unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. It’s the last sentence that makes one stop and think about how we are supporting one who sins.  When your friends are sinning right in front of you and won’t change, it could be time for new friends.
